What a difference a year makes...!
One year ago today we opened The Eco Hub to the public. Since then we have had hundreds of visitors – from reuse donations to regular customers to folks enquiring about energy-related issues.
We have hosted 7 campaigns (fromFFast fashion, Sustainable Christmas to our current campaign – Gardening for Wildlife).
In September we opened the refill shop and now stock a range of staple food items as well as liquid refills – from cooking oils to cleaning supplies.
When we moved into 40 Kinnessburn Road the garden was a few monkey species away from qualifying as a jungle. Since then, the Clean & Green team have worked tirelessly to completely overhaul this space. We secured funding from Fife Council’s local area budget, National Lottery ‘Awards for All’ & St Andrews Community Trust to help us to turn the space into a functional and accessible Community Garden.
We now have 7 raised beds – one of which is accessible for wheelchair users as well as a wheelchair accessible planting station. A local nursery group helped us to plant hedging on the edges of the garden and, despite the up and down nature of the weather recently, the hedging is coming along delightfully.
We have benches made from wood left over from both The Open Championship and Dunhill Links Championship in 2022 and a pond which is slowly beginning to attract some wildlife.
There is a wildflower area and stumpery to the bottom of the garden to provide pollinators with food and shelter! We also have some bird boxes & a bird feeder table, made by Mens Shed, for our feathered friends.
We have had great support from the local community and beyond in the past year as we have been working on making The Eco Hub the space that it is today. Thank you to all who have been involved, who have donated, and who visit us regularly.
It has been a whirlwind of a year but we are excited to see what the next year will bring us.
Do pop in to say hello! Our current opening times are noted below:
